Prolonging sleep at night
Prolonging sleep at night positively affects the amount of food and calories taken in during the day: these are the conclusions of a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Getting a good night's sleep can help regulate appetite with fewer calories ingested.

Experiment
The theoretical study was followed by an experiment, conducted by a team of scientists from the Centre for Sleep at the University of Chicago Medicine and the University of Wisconsin, on a group of 80 pre-obese volunteers. The extension of sleep to 8.5 hours coincided with a reduction in energy requirements and an average intake of 270 kcal less per day.

An important discovery
Extending sleep therefore can actually reduce the amount of calories ingested. The result of the research is remarkable because the participants did not have to do anything but sleep more. No dieting, no change of environment, no other change of habits.
